Lost And Running (NZ) (Per Incanto) will kick-off his preparation in the Gr.3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday.

The son of Per Incanto won his 900m trial at the Sydney track last month before finishing runner-up over the same distance behind stablemate and race rival Quantico at Warwick Farm last week.

Trainer John O’Shea plans to keep the stakes winner in Sydney this autumn and is eyeing some feature sprints with the five-year-old.

“We will just keep him in Sydney. Races like the Canterbury Stakes (Gr.1, 1300m), the Ryder (Gr.1, 1500m) and All Aged Stakes (Gr.1, 1400m) are really nice races for him,” O’Shea told RSN.

“Saturday will prove that he will probably concede to a horse like Quantico in a Newmarket (Gr.1, 1200m), so we are happy enough for him to stay here and we don’t really want to take on Nature Strip and the like.

“There is enough racing here for him, for this season anyway, and he may head to Melbourne towards the end of the year and he can run down the straight there.”

Lost And Running was bred by JML Bloodstock’s Lib Petagna and raised at Blandford Lodge in Matamata.

Petagna retains an interest in the impressive galloper, who races in the colours of Carl Holt, with partners including Frank and Christine Cook and O’Shea’s wife Isabel.
