Tavistock mare Niffler was back to winning ways at Randwick where she coasted home under a perfect ride from James McDonald.

The dependable five-year-old advanced her record to five wins and five placings from 12 appearances from Chris Waller’s stable.

Off the back of an uncharacteristic previous failure on the course, Niffler was away well from a handy gate to sit in fifth spot.

McDonald peeled three wide at the top of the straight and the mare strode to the front 150 metres from home to put the race to bed.

Niffler was bought out of Cambridge Stud’s 2019 New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sale draft for $200,000 by bloodstock agent Guy Mulcaster for Debbie Kepitis’ Woppitt Bloodstock.

Kepitis was on hand to celebrate the victory on a significant day where the feature race is named in honour of her champion mare Winx.

Niffler is a daughter of the Gr.3 Desert Gold Stakes (1600m) winner Glamorous Girl, who has a 100 percent record at stud with all seven foals to race successful.

Glamorous Girl was served last year by Group One winning son of Savabeel, Embellish.
