A bright future is tipped for promising mare Confiance(NZ) (Proisir) following her eye-catching win in the NZB Ready To Run Sale Trainers Series 1600 at Ellerslie on Tuesday.

The daughter of Proisir was taken straight to the back of the field from her outside barrier by jockey Warren Kennedy where she had an economical trip throughout. Kennedy asked her to improve when turning for home and she showed a brilliant turn of foot, quickly reeling in her rivals and ran out a convincing 1-3/4 length victor.

Trainers Graham Richardson and Rogan Norvall were impressed with her performance and said the plan was to ride her cold and have one crack at her opposition.

“What an impressive win,” Richardson said. “Brent (Cooper, Social Racing) and I and Warren discussed that we would ride her back because she used to over race a little bit, she dropped the bit and was beautiful.”

Bred by Rich Hill Stud, Confiance is raced by the Matamata farm in partnership with Social Racing, and Richardson believes the group are in for a bit of fun with their four-year-old mare over summer.

“I still think she is going to get better with a bit more age after Christmas some time,” he said. “She is a good staying mare.”
