The inaugural running of the Lisa Chittick Plate at Matamata on Saturday saw a fitting winner prevail in the shape of Pencarrow Stud’s black-type racemare Supera (NZ) (Savabeel).

“Given this brand new race was on our hometrack, on its biggest day of the year and was for fillies and mares, we felt it was an appropriate race to be involved with,” Waikato Stud’s Mark Chittick said.

“It was a field to be proud of in its first running and it was a great result for the Vela family with Supera, who fittingly is by Savabeel and who we also happen to own a half-sister to.

“The race looks like a good stepping stone for these fillies and mares to go on to prestigious races in the next few months.”

Trained by Ken and Bev Kelso, Supera will now target the Gr.1 Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes (2000m) at Ellerslie on March 7.
