Two former Group One winning mares had their offspring fill a place in a two-year-old race at Flemington.
Saturday’s VRC Member Philip Jacobsen Sprint (1100m) saw Argentia (Frankel), a daughter of Princess Coup (Encosta De Lago), line up against the fifth foal of Black Caviar, Invincible Caviar (I Am Invincible), in the 1100m dash.
Argentia, by Frankel, showed a touch of class in leading home the field of fillies while Invincible Caviar, by I Am Invincible, finished third after leading under Brian Higgins.
Trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman, Argentia had shown the stable plenty of talent and stable representative Steve Adams said the filly may now be set aside for a spring campaign.
Adams said the stable wanted Argentia ridden quietly and to finish the race off strongly.
“She’s always shown ability and it is nice to see them win like that. You don’t expect it, but it’s good to see it,” Adams said.
Argentia’s dam Princess Coup was an A$260,000 David Ellis purchase at the 2005 Magic Millions Yearling Sale and was raced by Taupo businessman John Bromley and Christchurch bakery owner Ray Coupland.
She earned NZ$4,234,168 through 12 wins from 33 starts, with four of those wins at Group One level including the 2007 and 2008 Kelt Capital Stakes (2040m).
At the end of her racing career Princess Coup fetched A$3million when sold as a broodmare with her second foal Thewizardofoz (Redoute’s Choice) being crowned Champion Griffin in Hong Kong in 2014-15.
