Talented four-year-old Kirwan’s Lane (NZ) (Charm Spirit) notched the sixth win of his career when successful over 1500m at Rosehill on Saturday.
The John O’Shea- trained gelding was having his second run back from a break and enjoyed an economical run three back on the fence under Brenton Avdulla from barrier 3, and only had to go around runner-up Ellsberg (Spill The Beans).
“He’s been going really well and he is a top little horse,” O’Shea said.
“Once he drew soft we were optimistic he could be in the finish and when Brenton sucked up behind the favourite’s back and peeled off his back, he was always going to be hard to beat from there.
“They cleared out from the others. He is a really good miler and I think he has got a good mile in him at some stage of his career.
“He has got a good winning record and he should probably get a little higher in the ratings during the winter and then he will come back in the summer and see what he brings.”
A son of Windsor Park Stud stallion Charm Spirit, Kirwan’s Lane was bred by Christopher Grace and is out of the winning Savabeel mare Galway, a sister to Group One winner Shillelagh and Group Two winner Tullamore.
He was purchased by O’Shea for $170,000 from the draft of Little Avondale Stud at the 2018 Karaka Book 1 yearling Sale and the progressive galloper has already earned $256,675 in prizemoney.
