Trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr have big plans for their exciting Kiwi-bred Golden Path this spring.
The rising four-year-old has won two and place in one of his three starts to date for the Cranbourne pair, including victory in the Silver Bowl Series Final (1600m) last start.
They have now set their sights on the A$10 million Golden Eagle (1500m) at Rosehill on November 4 with the son of Belardo, a race they won with their fellow New Zealand-bred I’m Thunderstruck two years ago.
New Zealand-breds have a strong record in the race, having won three of the four editions to date, and Price and Kent are keen to extend that record this year.
“He is about a 72-rater and I think you have to be about a 92-rater at least to get into this year’s Golden Eagle on November 4,” Price told Racing.com.
“He hasn’t specifically trained off, so I think he will do really well in four weeks and then if you’re racing at the start and mid-October, his two runs will determine if he can win and get his rating up and get into the Golden Eagle, that’s where I would run him.
“Albeit I think he’s a better mile horse and that Golden Eagle is a real turn-of-foot 1500m there at Rosehill.
“But he’s a (rising) four-year-old and that’s the kind of race to go for.
“He is raw and talented and his last win he did it easy and I get a bit optimistic with them.”
Golden Path was purchased out of Ardsley Stud’s 2021 New Zealand Bloodstock Book 2 Yearling Sale draft by Pukekohe trainer Michael Rogers, for whom he won two trials before being sold to clients of the Price-Kent stable.
