Injured northern jockey Matthew Cameron is confident of a raceday return prior to Christmas, just in time for the lucrative Boxing Day and New Year’s Day meetings at Ellerslie.
Cameron was injured after riding Visenya to a fifth-placed finish at New Plymouth last Friday.
He met with a knee specialist on Thursday morning and was pleased to hear a positive prognosis.
“Good news this morning from the knee specialists, I have just torn my MCL ligament on the inside of my knee, with a couple of strains here and there. I have a decent brace on and I will rest up for a few weeks and I’ll be back before Boxing Day,” Cameron tweeted on Thursday.
While he is looking forward to his return, Cameron will miss the ride on True Enough, who looms as a leading contender for the Gr.1 Captain Cook Stakes (1600m) at Trentham on December 7.
