Burgundy’s promising son Brandenburg has earned him a spring carnival crack at a Group Three feature.
The three-year-old broke his maiden on the Kensington track at Randwick today to earn a chance at higher honours.
“We won’t give him a hard spring, he’ll go to the Carbine Club Stakes and that will do him,” trainer John Sargent said.
“In the autumn and as a four-year-old he’ll get out to a trip.”
Brandenburg had placed in three of his previous four starts before he broke through in Brenton Avdulla’s hands.
“He had to front up today and he’s done that, it was a nice win,” Sargent said.
Brandenburg improved wide from third last 800 metres from home and produced a sustained finish for a clear-cut victory.
Bred by Christopher Grace, the colt is a half-brother to Sargent’s Gr.2 Wakeful Stakes winner Luvaluva.
“After Luvaluva, Mark Pilkington bought the mare in foal so this bloke’s been here all his life,” Sargent said.
The dam Wansesingyee is an unraced daughter of Galileo and a three-quarter sister to the stakes winner Luvuleo.
It’s also the family of the Group Three winners Almazyoon and El Maze.
