Tremendous results were achieved at the conclusion of New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2022 Ready to Run Sale, confirming the confidence buyers have in kiwi educated and prepared two-year-olds.
The momentum increased off the back of Day One’s results, which saw a buoyant market strengthened throughout the second day of trading.
“At the end of the first day I was satisfied, and at the end of Day Two I was ecstatic,” commented NZB Managing Director Andrew Seabrook.
“Today we witnessed one of the greatest Ready to Run Sale days that I’ve ever been involved with in my 30 years.
“To average over $135,000 with an 83% clearance rate on Day Two is phenomenal for a two-year-old sale.
“It was great to have all of our international friends back with us on the grounds, which created an electric atmosphere in the sale ring.
“It was a sale of two halves, which seems to happen each year but we couldn’t be more thrilled by what was achieved today,” he said.
The sale-topping lot was purchased on Day Two for $625,000 by Australian-based agent John Foote. Lot 258, a colt by Capitalist out of Sabrina (Sebring) offered by Regal Farm.
“He is doing well in Hong Kong so far (Capitalist). They (owners) are keen on the stallion and were happy to buy him,” said Foote.
“He is a beautiful horse and breezed well. He is by a proven stallion and had everything that you want for Hong Kong at the moment.
“I certainly did what I was told,” he said.
Shane Crawford of Regal Farm was overjoyed with the result, he prepared the colt at his Waikato-based operation after pinhooking him as a yearling.
“He is just an awesome horse. I knew from day one when I first put a leg over him that he was special.”
“We are very happy and relieved by the result.”
Bloodstock agent Andrew Williams secured the second highlight on Day Two purchasing Lot 307, a Hellbent colt out of Title Holder (Magic Albert). The colt was offered by Eion Kemp of Kilgravin Lodge.
Williams joined forces with Champion trainer Jamie Richards, securing five lots for a total spend of $1,375,000 and topping the leading purchaser by aggregate table.
Williams also purchased with the likes of Andrew Forsman, Colin Little, Liam Howley and Bevan Smith.
“I think it’s hard to ignore what New Zealand horses are doing in Australia, they seem to be competing on the biggest days and competing fiercely.”
“I think the kiwi vendors deserve the results. They take the risk, they buy good horses and bring them back to this market, which is a clear reference to the quality we saw today.
“They’re just bloody good horses.
“The Australian buyers will be here in droves in January and there’s a bit of excitement walking around knowing that.”
Sam and Hana Beatson of Riversley Park secured the leading vendor by aggregate title for the sixth consecutive year, selling 27 juveniles for $5,192,500 and averaging $192,315.
Sam Beatson commented on the outstanding sale results.
“We’re very happy with the pinhooks and for the clients that trusted us with their horses.”
“The Sale was strong on the second day. We did have some great results on the first day and we’re still doing business now.”
“If we’re all doing it and doing it well, everyone’s happy and everyone goes back and buys more horses at the yearling sales.”
Jamie and Chanel Beatson of Ohukia Lodge followed closely behind, selling 26 lots for a total of $4,927,500, while averaging $189,519.
Mark and Lorraine Forbes of Kiltannon Stables claimed the leading vendor by average title, after five two-year-olds were purchased for an average of $194,000, including a top price of $350,000.
Demand was strong for emerging sires with Justify, Turn Me Loose and Almanzor securing the top places on the leading sires by average table, with champion sire Savabeel in fourth.
