Gosford assignment for Killin

Former New Zealand galloper Killin will be out to secure his first win in Australia when he contests the Lest We Forget 3YO Maiden Plate (1200m) at Gosford on Sarturday.

The three-year-old son of Snitzel had two starts as a juvenile for Cambridge trainer Stephen Marsh, including a runner-up effort behind Aotea Lad in the Gr.2 Wakeful Challenge Stakes (1100m) at Trentham.

He subsequently transferred to the care of Kris Lees where he finished runner-up on debut and sixth in the Gr.3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m).

A hip fracture put an end to any early three-year-old aspirations and his connections have taken a patient approach with the colt.

“He went to Australia and ran well in his first run over there and then he got injured,” part-owner Bruce Perry said.

“We were getting him ready for the good three-year-old races in the spring and in August as he was just coming up trialling he knocked himself in the box.

“He got a greenstick fracture to his hip, but it is fine now.”

Killin finished runner-up over 1100m when first-up at Gosford earlier this month and Perry is confident of a good showing on Saturday.

“He has had one start back, he got ridden upside down, so hopefully he will win on Saturday,” he said.

“He is coming up really well.”
