The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr stable believes it has two genuine chances in a Stakes race at Caulfield on Wednesday and in turn a Group One contest later in the spring.
Grand Impact (NZ) (Satono Aladdin) and Bews (I Am Invincible) will represent Price and Kent Jnr in the Gr.3 Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) as a lead-up to the Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on October 29.
Price said this race was an early spring target and a springboard into other contests having won the race last year with Extreme Warrior and with Flying Artie in 2016.
“Grand Impact is going well and this has been the plan for him,” he said. “He’s got to be good enough on the day, but he’ll show up for sure.”
Grand Impact has won his two starts, scoring at Geelong in July and then at Sandown in early August.
The colt was given a break following his latest win, but Price said Grand Impact had trialled nicely for his return on Wednesday.
“We planned for this to be the route in, and he’s trialled up well,” Price said.
“We took them both to Caulfield on Saturday morning for a gallop. Bews worked a bit better, but Grand Impact is a lazy worker.”
Grand Impact has been easy in the betting from $4.60 to $6 since Monday’s barrier draw while Bews has been specked from $51 into $23 with TAB.
