Last start Gr.1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) victor Lion’s Roar (NZ) (Contributer) will be out to add another Guineas to his name at Rosehill this weekend.

The John O’Shea-trained gelding will step up to 2000m for the second time in his career in the postponed Gr.1 Rosehill Guineas, after finishing runner-up over the distance in the Gr.1 Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick last October.

O’Shea is pleased with the son of Contributer ahead of the weekend and he is hoping for a series of fine days in the lead-up to the Guineas after a blast of wet weather in Sydney over the last few weeks.

“He is as good as we can have him under the circumstances. He will run really well on Saturday,” O’Shea told SENTrack.

“If we get three good days of drying and a good day on Saturday, it will probably get to a six or seven, so that will be fine.”

While unable to use any of the grass surfaces to train on at his Randwick base as a result of the wet weather, O’Shea said the complex’s polytrack has become a very important tool.

“We are very lucky that we have got an artificial surface here, which has been a godsend,” he said.

Lion’s Roar was purchased out of Wellfield Lodge’s 2019 New Zealand Bloodstock Book 1 Yearling Sale draft by Champion Thoroughbreds for $65,000.
