Anticipation is building in the countdown to next month’s 2022 National Weanling Sale, with a quality catalogue of youngsters now available to view online here.
The National Weanling Sale will be held as a physical sale at Karaka on Friday 17 June, and for the first time since the Karaka 2020 yearling sales some 28 months ago, vaccinated Australians will be able to attend a sale at Karaka without requiring isolation.
NZB’s online bidding services will also be available, giving buyers the chance to access an offering of quality weanlings remotely.
The National Weanling Sale is a proven source of racetrack success, producing the likes of Group One winners Callsign Mav (NZ) (Atlante) and Jennifer Eccles (NZ) (Rip Van Winkle) in recent seasons, and this year’s edition of the Sale sees another outstanding selection of 111 weanlings to go under the hammer.
Buyers will have access to the progeny of established star sires such as American Pharoah, Belardo, Darci Brahma (NZ), Dundeel (NZ), Ocean Park (NZ), Per Incanto, Proisir, Redwood, Savabeel, Shocking, Sweynesse, Tivaci, Turn Me Loose (NZ) and Vadamos, as well as an exclusive early look at New Zealand’s exciting first-season sires such as Super Seth, Ten Sovereigns and Wyndspelle (NZ).
There is plenty of quality on the dams’ side of the pedigrees as well, featuring:
- The progeny of 10 stakes-winning mares, including Group One winner Xanadu (NZ) (Elusive City) (Lot 7).
- Well-bred weanlings who are siblings to proven black-type stars such as Boomba (NZ) (Showcasing), Nicoletta (NZ) (Savabeel), The Holy One (NZ) (Tavistock), Scott Base (NZ) (Dalghar), Daqiansweet Junior (NZ) (Sweet Orange) and Rock On Wood (NZ) (Redwood).
- Almost 50 dams who are siblings to stakes performers, including Group One standouts (The) Bostonian (NZ) (Jimmy Choux), Shootoff (NZ) (Duelled), Distill (NZ) (Volksraad), Shadows In The Sun (Dane Shadow), Ekstreme (NZ) (Ekraar), Scarlett Lady (NZ) (Savabeel), Shillelagh (NZ) (Savabeel), Chenille (NZ) (Pentire), Captivate (NZ) (Stravinsky), Kahma Lass (NZ) (Darci Brahma) and Sharvasti (NZ) (Montjeu).
NZB Managing Director Andrew Seabrook is looking forward to hosting another National Weanling Sale at Karaka.
“We have seen the weanling-only sale format adopted well by our buyers since its inauguration in 2020,” he said.
“Key metrics have continued to climb across the board and it tends to bring great participation by both international and domestic buyers, including a strong contingent of pinhookers.
“With the market and demand for our New Zealand stock being so strong, we are looking forward to selling more horses on behalf of our consignors.”
All weanlings offered through the National Weanling Sale at Karaka are eligible to be nominated for NZB’s lucrative Karaka Million Series. Graduates can compete for a share in the $1m DoubleTree by Hilton Karaka Million 2YO (1200m), followed by the $1m Karaka Million 3YO Classic (1600m) and the $100,000 CollinsonForex Karaka Cup (2200m) for the remainder of their careers.
Weanlings entered in the Sale will be available for inspections at the on-farm parades and on-site at Karaka Sales Centre, with NZB agents available to inspect on behalf of buyers. View the list of New Zealand-based agents here.
Buyers wishing to physically attend the Sale and stay on-site and New Zealand Bloodstock’s newly established DoubleTree by Hilton Karaka hotel can book their accommodation here.
