Three-year-old filly Tilianam (NZ) (Savabeel) provided an instant return on her recent purchase price when she made a winning debut from her new quarters in Queensland on Saturday.
The Waikato Stud-bred and sold daughter of Savabeel was making her first appearance from Tony Gollan’s yard and proved too slick for her age group rivals over 1200m at Eagle Farm.
Tilianam had won twice, including success in the Listed Lonhro Plate (1000m) at her second start, when prepared by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.
She was offered at last month’s Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale and was knocked down to Newgate Farm’s Henry Field for A$625,000.
Tilianam travelled well throughout and extended impressively under rider Hugh Bowman to score with authority by a length from favourite Rhapsody Rose (Star Witness).
“Henry Field bought her and sent her up and allowed us to send her to this race,” Gollan said.
“I was a little bit concerned coming in. She’d had a deep preparation at Gai and Adrian’s and it was going to go one of two ways today – very good, or very bad.
“Thankfully it has gone very good.
“This race was a sweet spot for her. She’s a lovely filly with plenty of upside being by Savabeel. She’s obviously got a good pedigree and they forked out a lot of money for her. It is a privilege to have her up here and I’m sure she’s going to do a great job.
“With a bit of luck we’ll race her on for another season and it won’t be the last win you see of her.”
Golan said the change of environment to the warmer climes of Queensland can often help rejuvenate horses.
“Getting horses from other stables and they get a bit of sun on their back, who knows. She’s very tough, a typical Savabeel filly.
“The more we’ve done with her the more she’s got and that is what you saw today.”
Tilianam, who has now won three of her 10 starts, was originally bought by Waterhouse and Bott as a yearling at Karaka for $270,000 and is out of the stakes performed Pins mare Spending (NZ).
Spending is a sibling to Group Two winner Shopaholic (NZ) and a half-sister to the Group Two winner Splurge (NZ) (Savabeel) with their dam the Gr.3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m) winner and Group One-placed Splashing Out (NZ) (O’Reilly), a three-quarter sister to the late multiple Group One winner and successful sire Sacred Falls.
Spending has a yearling sister to Tilianam and produced an Ocean Park filly in 2021 before visiting Super Seth.
