Shalwa to concentrate on easy summer races

Premier trainer Tony Gollan intends to make the most of the weaker off- season races with stud-bound Shalwa (NZ) (O’Reilly) who scored easily at Eagle Farm.

Shalwa had raced in stakes company at her past three starts including a second in the Listed Just Now Quality (1350m) two runs back.

Starting at $1.50, Shalwa never looked like losing against a far inferior field in the Queensland Chinese Jockey Club Plate (1000m).

Gollan said Shalwa had won as he expected.

“She had a lot on them and obviously can win something a bit better,” Gollan said.

“But I don’t think she is up to the winter so we will make hay while the sun shines in these races at the end of the summer.

“She is being sold as a broodmare and she has some black-type so a few more wins will help.”

Gollan said Shalwa raced well when fresh and had been mostly confined to a water walker since her previous start a month ago.
