Still Single off the mark

Still Single showed she was well above average as a juvenile and she’s wasted no time getting on the board this season.

The Cambridge Stud-raced More Than Ready filly resumed on the Kensington track at Randwick and was an emphatic winner.

Trained by Chris Waller, Still Single settled at the back before coming wide on the turn.

She made light of her 59kg to amble to the lead halfway down the straight and closed off for an easy win.

“She felt brilliant and gave me a lovely ride,” successful jockey James McDonald said.

“She’s been taken along slowly and is maturing all the time and she’ll get even better.”

Still Single finished sixth on debut in the Gr.3 Widden Stakes (1100m) last term and then showed the benefit of that experience.

She was runner-up at Warwick Farm and then finished second in the Gr.2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m).

Still Single was given a couple trials ahead of resuming this afternoon and she got the job done in fine style.

“She’s a very talented horse and obviously we’ve got bigger things in mind for her,” Waller said.

“She’s a well-bred horse and a pleasure to train for Cambridge Stud.

“She’s certainly showed plenty of ability and it’s good to get the maiden out of the way.”

It was a deserved success for horse and connections, who had two seconds earlier in the day at home with Silver Lake and Flashdance at Ruakaka.

Still Single was a $500,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase and is out of the Not A Single Doubt mare Single Style.

The dam is a half-sister to the former smart sprinter Fab Fevola, who was successful eight times and ran fourth in the Gr.1 Lightning Handicap.

The family also features the two-time Group One winner Flamberge and the Group Two winners Sunburnt Land and Sword Of Light. Still Single will therefore be a valuable addition in time to the Cambridge Stud broodmare band.
