Group One winner Tofane will have her final hit-out in Melbourne on Saturday before heading north to Sydney to attempt to summit A$15 million The Everest (1200m) at Randwick later this month.
The daughter of Ocean Park will line-up in the Gr.2 Gilgai Stakes (1200m) and trainer Michael Moroney is pleased with the way the New Zealand-bred mare is tracking.
She finished third first-up in the Gr.2 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) and Moroney believes she will be at concert pitch when third-up in The Everest.
“So far everything has gone to plan,” Moroney told RSN927. “We had planned when we brought her in that we wanted to chase The Everest and our homework says that after she has had two runs is about when she is at her best.
“So we will go into it (The Everest) third-up.
“She has taken nice improvement from her first-up run. I had her pretty forward because we were in negotiations over an Everest spot, so I knew I needed to have her up to performing well.
“She has gone on with it and has improved again I think.”
Tofane will jump from barrier four and will carry 58kg with jockey Damien Oliver aboard.
“She is in quite well but when you see her against Santa Anna Lane, she is giving him a kilo,” Moroney said.
“But she is really well and her record is good down the straight. All she needs is a bit of speed on in her races to help her, but I am sure they will run along true enough.”
